No.16 "Waverley on the Clyde"

For many generations of now senior citizens, born and brought up in and around Glasgow, joining the crowds of happy holiday trippers sailing ‘doon the watter’ to the Clyde resorts of Dunoon and Rothesay, through the Kyles of Bute to Tighnabruaich and Tarbert, south to Largs, Ayr, Girvan and Ailsa Craig, across to Millport on Cumbrae and beyond to Brodick on the Isle of Arran, was a way of life now looked back upon with a mixture of nostalgia and affection.

This video tries to recapture those memories of bygone days.

The “Waverley” was built in 1947 and is powered by a Rankin & Blackmore of Greenock 2100 h.p.triple expansion steam engine, giving her a service speed of 14½ knots.

Running Time approximately 60 minutes
